Curvy Couture: Shades of Orchid

“The invigorating pinks and fuchsias reflect the exotic flowers and tropical orchards seen in that area of the world.”

Designer Dora Lau takes her life experiences and fascination with nature and pours them into the creative designs of her lingerie brand, Curvy Couture. Most recently, her travels to the island of Mauritius influenced Dora’s color choices for SS14 which included a generous offering of lavenders and purples.

That color selection dove-tails with Pantone’s recent announcement of Orchid as the 2014’s color of the year.

The Curvy Couture team sent us images that showcase the influence of Orchid and Dora’s visit to Mauritius on the collection. The images also feature the brand’s Mystic Floral Collection that includes beautiful floral embroidery on many of the garments.

For SS14, Dora says she tried to channel the natural treasures and soulful properties of the island nation into a microcosm of intimate apparel, presenting full form women with a means of bringing the rich, pure beauty and raw strength inspired by this Eden of the Indian Ocean into their everyday lives in a tangible way.

Many of the details in the collection, such as the silver embroidery are meant to mimic the sparkling sands of pristine white beaches of Mauritius. The fabrics of vibrant color are also meant to arouse the transformational blues of crystalline lagoons and the invigorating pinks and fuchsias reflect the exotic flowers and tropical orchards seen in that area of the world.

“We shop globally for technology and fashion and infuse these details,” Lau says of Curvy Couture’s offerings.
