Hispanic Heritage Month with Evelyn Santos

We love representing Every Kind of Curvy year-round, including the beautiful people of all races, gender and size. We're celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Evelyn Santos and are so excited for you to meet her! Also, don't miss out on Queercenera, a free event we're throwing with the LA LGBT Center in LA! More info below.

Evelyn Santos is co-founder/owner of Gentefy, a business that focuses on investing in people, places and programs that answer the demand of Latino communities. As an LA native, born in Boyle Heights and raised in the San Gabriel Valley; she along with her husband knew that they wanted to ignite economic activity through artisan food, art, culture & entrepreneurship.

As a result, BLVD MRKT & Alchemy Craft were developed and launched in August 2021. BLVD MRKT is a micro food hall that houses 8 food and beverage businesses. Alchemy Craft is a bar that focuses on serving and highlighting craft beer and wine. Both are located in Downtown Montebello

We asked Evelyn, an LA Native Angelino herself, to share her 5 favorite Latino-owned business in LA.

  1. BLVD MRKT // 520 W. Whittier Blvd, Montebello, CA 90640 // @blvdmrkt

Ok, I know that this one might be a bit biased…lol but I really LOVE the Latino owned businesses that we have curated inside of BLVD MRKT. I truly believe there is something for everyone to enjoy. You can grab some cafecito, pupusas, tacos, beer, wine and/or pizza while sitting in the beautiful courtyard filled with greenery, listening to good tunes and know that you are supporting multiple Latino owned businesses. The energy at this space really is special.

  1. Sacred Light // 1939 Hillhurst Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90027 // @wearesacredlight

Growing up I was the type of little girl that wore a mood ring and a jade buddha necklace so naturally as I got older, I gravitated to all things spiritual. In my home and workspace, you will find crystals, incense and crystal tones sound bowls. I have purchased many of these gems from Sacred Light. This beautiful shop in Los Feliz is one of my favorite places to visit. It is Latina owned and has a great selection of crystals and gems. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by the aroma of incense and magical energy.

  1. Gusto Bread // 2710 E. 4th, Long Beach, CA 90814 // @gustobread

This one is not located in LA but Long Beach is close enough!
Everyone in LA has their favorite places for pan dulce. I have a couple but when I can make it out to Long Beach Gusto is definitely on my list. Gusto Bread is an artisanal panaderia that makes their pan dulce from fermented sourdough. They also serve coffee and not just any coffee, they serve café de olla. Anyone that really knows me knows that I have a sweet spot for café de olla. I mean who doesn’t love coffee infused with orange peels, cinnamon and brown sugar?! The pan dulce and cafecito is so delicious and never disappoints.

  1. Sonoratown // 208 E. 8TH Los Angeles, CA 90014 // @sonoratownla

In the heart of LA in downtown off of 8th and Los Angeles St. you will find Sonoratown. If you are looking for an inexpensive, delicious, meal for about $10; this is the place! My fave is the shredded beef chivichanga with green salsa on the side and an agua fresca. I will never turn it down. All my family and friends that I have brought here have loved it as well.

  1. Artemisa Femmes // a traveling pop-up // @artemisafemmes

If you like wearing beautiful adornments, you will love Artemisa Femmes. This pop-up that can be found at various weekend markets specializes in vintage and custom artisan jewelry from Mexico. Julia the owner, and a fellow Capricorn, travels to Guadalajara and works with local artisans to make one-of-a-kind pieces. I have purchased some of my favorite statement pieces from her.

As an entrepreneur who believes in feeling good from the inside out, here are Evelyn’s Top 3 favorite bras from Curvy Couture.

  1. Sheer Mesh Full Coverage Bra
  2. Sheer Mesh Plunge T-Shirt Bra
  3. Smooth Seamless Comfort Wireless Bra
